History

Vision

Our study of History seeks to prepare students for a wide range of careers by teaching transferable skills through the study of different times, countries, and themes across a broad chronological and geographical spectrum.

Through studying history our students will develop a deep understanding of the events of the past and be able to analyse and interpret trends throughout history. This will enable them to:

  • be active citizens with an awareness of their rights and responsibilities
  • be aware of the diversity and experience of others
  • learn from the past to promote tolerance and respect
  • develop an intellectual curiosity and lifelong love of history.

Through our rich and varied curriculum at Key Stage 3, we hope that as many students as possible continue their study of history through into Key Stage 4. Students are given 1 to 2 hours History study per week at KS3 and 3 hours a week at KS4.. History is taught chronologically through KS3 to ensure that students gain an understanding of events through time and how they relate to each other, however through these studies they will also gain and practice the skills needed for KS4. At KS4 we teach the thematic study of medicine, as well as Early Elizabethan England, before moving onto Weimar and Nazi Germany. We finish our GCSE studies with the American West, with essay practice and revision before students take their final examinations.
